The Port celebrated its inaugural Taste of the Port event on September 22, 2016 with over 400 people in attendance. The event extended the reach and awareness of the Port's green mission, while showcasing the sustainability efforts of participating businesses. Taste of the Port activated the waterfront by showcasing top chefs on the bay and part of the Port's aquaculture program. The evening featured food and drink tastings from 13 Port restaurants, six breweries and wineries, and included a sushi booth with fish and oysters provided by local fisheries and aquaculture businesses.
During the evening event, three Port chefs squared off in a live sustainable cooking competition and competed on behalf of the environmental charity of their choice. Congratulations to Kyle Kovar, Executive Chef at Tom Ham's Lighthouse, who won the Green Chef title and a $1,000 for San Diego Coastkeeper.
